Accessibility Statement

Last updated: Oct 19, 2024

At Gizmo's Retrocade, we are committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including individuals with disabilities. We continuously strive to improve the user experience by applying relevant accessibility standards, including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 and working towards compliance with WCAG 2.2 as they are implemented.

Measures to Support Accessibility

  • We regularly review our site to address accessibility concerns, aiming to meet both WCAG 2.1 and WCAG 2.2 standards.
  • Ongoing training is provided to our development team to ensure that our website remains accessible as guidelines evolve.
  • Both manual and automated accessibility testing are conducted to identify and fix potential barriers.

Accessibility Features

  • Keyboard Navigation:
Our site is fully navigable via keyboard alone, with all interactive elements labeled and accessible without a mouse.
  • Text Alternatives:
All non-text content, including images and videos, has appropriate alternative text.
  • Consistent Layout:
Our site layout is designed for ease of navigation and consistent user experience across all pages.

Measures to Support Accessibility

  • Alt Tags for Images: All non-text content, including images and visual elements, have descriptive alt tags to provide clear, meaningful alternatives for screen reader users.
  • Focus Management: Interactive elements, such as buttons and links, are fully navigable via keyboard and display visible focus outlines to aid users navigating with keyboards or assistive devices.
  • ARIA Labels and Attributes: Where necessary, we apply ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) attributes to enhance the accessibility of dynamic content, such as dropdown menus and search forms.
  • We regularly review our site to address accessibility concerns, aiming to meet both WCAG 2.1 and WCAG 2.2 standards. Both manual and automated accessibility testing are conducted to identify and fix potential barriers.

Known Issues and Ongoing Improvements

We are actively addressing the following areas to enhance accessibility in line with both WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 standards:
  1. Flicker Animations: Certain headings feature flicker animations. While these animations meet the color contrast guidelines, we understand that they may pose a challenge to users sensitive to flashing effects. We are currently adding a pause functionality to allow users control over these animations. Users sensitive to visual motion may also adjust their browser settings or use tools to disable animations.
  2. Dropdown Filter for Games List: The "Games List" page features a dropdown filter to sort games by type. Currently, the dropdown does not fully announce state changes to screen readers. We are working on implementing improvements, including proper ARIA attributes and screen reader announcements, to ensure that this filtering process is fully accessible to all users.
  3. Game Search Form ("Do We Have Your Game?"): Our home page features a search form allowing users to check whether a specific game is available at Gizmo's. While the form is functional, we are actively working on ensuring that the form is fully accessible for users relying on screen readers and keyboard navigation. This includes adding appropriate labels, ARIA attributes, and ensuring proper focus management when using the form.
